The Stealing Monk... 3

Rabu, 18 Nov '09 11:03

Once in Shao Lin monastery, a young monk was caught stealing from his fellow monks. That was not the first time, and all his fellow monks ran out of patience and petitioned the abbot to expel him. The abbot refused, and the angry monks threatened to walk out of the monastery. To this threat, the abbot replied calmly thus, "You've all known already the difference between right and wrong. I know you're all good persons, and you'll all do well outside this monastery. This friend of yours, on the other hand, doesn't the difference between right and wrong. I can not let him go in his present condition. He needs me to teach him, and that's what I'm here for. Go, if you all want to go. He will stay here. So will I".
It is said that the young monk was so moved by the abbot's speech that he mended his way immediately. It is also said that later he became one of the abbots in Shao Lin's long history. His angry fellow monks? They stayed, of course.

Why did I write this old story? It's the news of how Cibro died as mentioned in here: http://www.hariansumutpos.com/2009/11/dimarahi-santri-bunuh-diri.html

Farewell, Cibro. I wish I knew you better. There's a good chance we can engage in a lively discussion with you again in the world of the afterlife. Some of us, at least. Me, I live forever.
