NUKLIR UNTUK LISTRIK INDONESIA 35

Senin, 23 Nov '09 22:58

I'm not truly familiar with this nuclear stuff, so I'm going to ask you one thing: do you think Indonesia today is much better prepared than the USSR were on the day the Chernobyl incident happened?

The security procedure is different. A regular visit from IAEA is a must, and in my humble opinion, in Indonesian's case, it should be more frequently supervised.

Second question. Anybody knows how many years it takes to dissolve radio active waste?

We have experienced in dealing with medical isotope reactors but it is different, tough. Nuclear reactor for electricity needs very careful planning and management.

However, in the beginning phase, the tight supervision by IAEA is a must, in order to ensure the security procedure is fully complied. If necessary, the settlements in the surrounding area are emptied within several radius. In regards with the waste management, the nuclear waste is stored beneath the geologically safe place under the earth, for our case, it means that we have to dig and construct containment place somewhere in the island of Borneo

Wonggantenk: How many years? Will the people who create the radio active waste outlive the waste? I don't think so. So it would be up to the future generations to deal with the waste if something goes wrong.

of course, indeed, I admit there are many advantages of using nuclear energy- overall, nuclear energy has proven to be most beneficial to the world society. as a result of this technology, USA has decreased its dependency on foreign-imported oil. In fact, the USA saves about 12 billion dollars each year through the lack of oil it imports from other nations
nuclear energy has also proven to be a protector of the environment because of the lack of CO2, greenhouse gasses, and other gases it emits into the atmosphere.

    have a blessed day ,

Red-White Eagle: The waste is contained beneath the constructed containment place under the earth. For our case, we have no other choice for the geologically safe place except the Kalimantan island.

However, the problem is the "leakage" during the operation of the reactor. This parts needs careful management and supervision. I think, at least 20 years of tight supervision by IAEA is needed, before conducting the normal/regular supervision like other countries.

We have already becomed a net oil importer. At least nuclear energy is cheap enough.

Red-White Eagle: Yes, we (the environmental engineers) have found some microbes that can handle the uranium waste. They can be useful for the treatment of the waste water/runoff water in the uranium ore mining sites, at least.

However, the best for the after final waste of the reactor is still to contain the waste under the earth (and we have to rely on the skill of our brothers in other branch of civil engineering, the structural and geotechnical engineers, and of course the geologist)

    SUKSES SELALU INDONESIAKU!!

Wonggantenk: OK, now I'm getting scared out of my wit. We haven't fully understand the nature of geological matters, and we are trying to contain radio active waste beneath the earth? What if there is any leakage in the waste container? How much damage can such a leakage do to the environment?
Haven't we done enough damage with Kalimantan already?
    Red-White Eagle 0 0
Info Terbaik: [Tidak ada salahnya MENCOBA] Yes, of course, but have we tried other options first? Some option that wouldn't be too risky to the future generation?

Red-White Eagle: of course there several criteria for the containment place, for examples:
    - the construction for the storage room must be done below the groundwater aquifer level at some distance
    - the concrete structure is water proof, either for the construction of the containment room or the solidification of the waste
    - the waste is preferably solidified first with concrete prior to being stored in the containment room.

Wonggantenk: Is a leak still possible? Even with those conditions fulfilled?

I asked all those questions simply because I want to know if the advantage provided by nuclear power is worth the risk. So bear with me if I keep on asking.

    Yes.

[_Second question. Anybody knows how many years it takes to dissolve radio active waste?_]

Do you know that Coal power plant of the same power, disperse more radioactive material than nuclear power plant?

So, even if we cant do anything about those wastes, we can still disperse them to the air, its still safer than coal. : D

[_Is a leak still possible? Even with those conditions fulfilled?_]
    Yes its possible.

Heck why do we even need to store the waste? just put them in the open air along the borders.. : D

Its cheaper and alot more secure than putting soldiers there.

sepertinya satu PLTN aja cukup kok sementara

Info terbaik: kalo cuma 1-2 PLTN , pertanyaanya wilayah mana...nanti banyak timbul kecemburuan sosial
